ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lisa Mendes trained as a journalist at Rhodes University, South Africa, before forging a successful career as a researcher in the South African television industry. At 27, she moved to the UK where she worked in PR, marketing and print journalism before going back to study for an MA at the University of Kent. She has been writing and editing for most of her career in some form or another, but began to freelance full-time in this capacity in 2010 and now works for a wide variety of clients, from London-based publishing houses to academics and charities.
A keen student of astrology, she has a Certificate from the Faculty of Astrological Studies and an MA in Cosmology & Divination. In 2012, she was asked to edit a revised edition of the much-loved astrology classic by Harold Wigglesworth on behalf of the Urania Trust. The result was ‘The New Astrology of Towns & Cities’, published in 2014, which is available in both print and eBook formats.
More recently, she wrote and edited ‘A Life with Animals,’ a commemorative book published to mark the 30th anniversary of the wildlife charity, The Aspinall Foundation.

In The New Astrology of Towns & Cities, the much-loved classic by Harold Wigglesworth, originally published by the Astrological Association in 1973, is given a new lease on life. The latest edition, revised and updated by Lisa Mendes, and created in association with the Urania Trust, contains all the key data needed to construct an astrological chart for the town or city in question, including:
- Charter/incorporation dates
- Geographical co-ordinates,
- County information,
- Domesday Book mentions
- Main chart indicators (AS, Sun and Moon).
An in-depth notes section at the back, filled with interesting facts and figures about the history of local government bodies and civic life in many places, also makes for absorbing reading, whilst the chart drawings peppered throughout the listings clearly depicts the horoscopes of some of England’s most significant localities.
A must-have reference book for the astrologer interested in local civic history and locational astrology.
