BOOK REVIEWS

cc2015 Amazon TOP 1000 REVIEWER

This book is perfect for any young girls 6-11. The reading level and length is suitable for the age level that is intended, and so are the characters. Most girls will fall in love with the two sisters, Ella and Belle, and their lives at the Chadwick Castle with their pretty dresses, governesses, and lives as princesses. It's fairy-tale like, and has enchanting, beautiful paintings on every page. The best part about this book, though, is the unique plotline, and how, even though the book starts off with the lives of two princesses, it develops into a mystery. You would definitely want to get the second book after this!

Elise

Set in Chadwick Castle, 12-year-old Ella and her 10-year-old sister Belle live a fairytale like life complete with blue brocade dresses, pianoforte lessons, cooks and servants waiting on them, and sweet kittens playing by the fireplace. The two princesses engage in typical sibling rivalry and affection, and collaborate to try and solve the mystery of the hurried footsteps they hear when midnight strikes, and whispered rumors about their mother. What makes this book unique is that each page is illustrated with beautiful details from Renoir paintings: the author has carefully selected these illustrations to complement the story. In this way, the paintings become memorable when tied in with an exciting mystery, and the story comes alive with beautiful paintings to help tell it. At the end of the story, the book includes historical information about the artist. This Chadwick Castle mystery is one in a series called “Princesses of Chadwick Castle.” Each of the books in the series, according to the front page, will study a different painter. This would be an excellent series for introducing important artists and there works to young readers ages eight through 12, especially girls. The mystery and While Princesses Sleep is not resolved at the end of the book, so readers will want to purchase the next in the series to find out what happens!
