ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bob Looker has written The Pheasant based on both his army experience and very much used the area he grew up in.  The house he describes is his home before he left to join the Army.  Having carried out research for his book ‘Three Days’ he was able to use this in this book.  Bob’s stories, although based on historical facts are not bound by them, using them as a backdrop rather then a straight-jacket.  I am lucky in that my local newspaper and the group it is in, have helped to spread the word, not only where I live but in the areas of the story and where I grew up.

"What did you do in the war granddad"?  For John Finch this was a difficult question.  He has signed the Official Secrets Act those many years ago, was he still bound by it?  At his advanced age did it now matter.  The story goes on to cover what John told his grandson, Simon.  It covers his recruitment, training and work as the Commander of the 203 Battalion of the Home Guard, which was a cover unit for the British Resistance in the South of England.  At the end of the story Simon find out that his Granddad was a real hero.
